International Research and Training Experience (IRTE)

The International Research and Training Experience (IRTE) is a structured summer research program where undergraduates (and in some cases graduate students and postdocs) travel as a group to a research institution abroad to gain valuable research experience, while also learning about another culture. The GQL provides stipend, travel and housing support for these activities and students work in the labs of world-leading experts in quantum devices, materials and architectures.

In the summer of 2022, we held our first IRTE program in NIMS Japan and followed up with two exchanges in the summer of 2023 at NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan and at RWTH, Aachen, Germany. More details about these programs can be found below.

Selections for the 2024 cohort is complete. Follow us over the summer to hear more about students’ experiences and keep an eye out for the next call for applicants in Fall 2024!
