The next big leap starts with something small
An international consortium for advancing nanofabrication infrastructure and quantum technology
Funded by a grant from the National Science Foundation, this international “network of networks” seeks to accelerate the discovery and development of next-generation computing and communications systems by linking nanofabrication technologies with quantum information sciences.
Three goals. One mission.
Create linkages between the nanofabrication and quantum information science communities on a global scale.
Facilitate the creation of a technology roadmap for emerging quantum computing systems.
Equip students, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career researchers with skills to collaborate with international, interdisciplinary teams that will tackle challenges related to quantum computing systems.
The Global Quantum Leap (GQL) brings together key nodes within the NSF-funded National Nanotechnology Coordinated Infrastructure (NNCI) and complementary networks in the US and across the globe working on quantum technologies. GQL will lay the foundation to develop a globally-aware workforce that can shape future innovations in quantum technology and will fundamentally influence the overall trajectory for quantum manufacturing development.
Quantum Technology Events
The GQL is proud to provide logistical and financial support for conferences, workshops, bootcamps, and summer schools centered on building the future of Quantum Science.
To hear more about our 2021 Quantum Technology Infrastructure Workshop and plans for future events follow the link below.
The International Research and Training Experience (IRTE)
Every Summer the GQL cooperates with our international partners to run a structured exchange program for advanced undergraduates and select postgrads. Our exchanges typically run from June to September and calls for applications are posted in the fall. In Summer of 2023 GQL will run exchanges with NIMS in Tsukuba, Japan and RWTH Aachen in Aachen, Germany.

Project Based Exchanges
Each Spring the GQL puts out a call for Ad-Hoc or Project Based Exchanges. Under this program the GQL funds travel and housing for international collaboration within our network. Researchers can apply with a plan for collaboration between research groups in different partner networks to receive funding for their travel and housing during their collaboration.
If you are a member of one of our partner networks with an idea for an international scientific collaboration follow the link below to learn more about our Project Based Exchanges.
Programs and Opportunities
The Global Quantum Leap Program supports international collaboration through events, exchanges, and funding opportunities for research in Quantum Physics and Nanofabrication across our international network of partnerships. Read more about our individual programs below to find out if your opportunities are right for you.
Participating Institutions
The Global Quantum Leap is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the Accelerating Research through International Network-to-Network Collaborations (AccelNet) program. The AccelNet program is designed to accelerate the process of scientific discovery and prepare the next generation of U.S. researchers for multi-team international collaborations. AccelNet supports strategic linkages among U.S. research networks and complementary networks abroad that will leverage research and educational resources to tackle grand scientific challenges that require significant coordinated international efforts.
